Our StoryJudy and Dick Maran of Little Rock, Arkansas, replaced their mailbox time and again because of mailbox vandalism.
They are not alone. Local law enforcement agencies said that mailbox theft and vandalism is a major problem that proves very time consuming for law enforcement. The paperwork alone takes hours and it is difficult to prove a suspect committed the crime unless caught in the act. Judy and Dick suspected they were missing mail. Their suspicions were confirmed when a woman, who lived about ten miles away, called and said their canceled checks were blowing across her front yard. Over time, they missed some uncashed checks, bank statements and some bills.
There had to be a better solution! As a temporary remedy, Dick cut a slot in their mailbox door and padlocked it. But mail was sometimes torn as it was shoved through the slot, and only the mail that could fit through the small opening was delivered; the rest had to be retrieved at the post office. Next, they began the hunt for a mailbox that would lock automatically after mail was deposited--one that would hold packages and be impervious to baseball bat blows. After months of searching through catalogs and hardware, discount, wholesale and home stores, they found that no one mailbox met all their criteria. So, out of necessity, they did more research and invented The MaiLocker . A Happy Ending
