FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Does the mailman need a key?
No, the Postal Service will not allow that and the mail carrier does not
need a key. The MaiLocker door is held shut
in a ‘ready’(but unlocked) position by a magnetic catch. The mail carrier pulls
the door open and puts mail and packages inside, then closes the door securely.
That’s whenThe MaiLocker locks automatically.
How many keys come with my MaiLocker?
Four. In the past, we provided two keys, but several customers requested
that we provide more. We always listen to our customers and try to comply when
we can. Additional keys must be duplicated by a locksmith.
What if someone closes the door before the mail carrier gets there?
The MaiLocker has a mail slot in the door,
so the carrier will still be able to deliver letters and flat pieces. If you
happen to have a package, the carrier will leave a note. Our mail slot was
designed so that flat pieces can be inserted, but so that it would be very
difficult for a mail thief to fish items out through the slot. The slot on our
regular size is 6 3/4" from side-to-side and 3/8" deep; the slot on
the extra large measures 91/2" x 3/8".

How does the lock work?
When you unlock your MaiLocker
and open the door to get your letters and packages, turn the key with the teeth
facing back up again to set the latch. Then, close the door until the magnet
catches and holds it in the ‘ready’ position. The next time the mail carrier
pulls open the door and puts your mail and packages inside, then closes the
door completely, it will lock automatically. The MaiLocker
protects your mail from thieves, thereby protecting you from Identity Theft.
Can I keep my MaiLocker
from automatically locking sometimes?
Yes. When you unlock your MaiLocker
, simply remove your key while it is in the
upside down position and the lock latch is withdrawn inside the lock, then
close the door. To set it to lock again, insert your key with the teeth pointing
downward and turn it to the upright position, so the latch is outside the lock.
Remove your key and close the door until the magnet catches it.
What if someone else in my neighborhood has a
MaiLocker? Could they get into my
MaiLocker with their key?
No, there are so many different key/lock combinations, chances of finding a
match are extremely slim. (Our last 1,000 locks had no duplicates.)
Is The MaiLocker USPS Approved?
One of the criteria needed to get USPS approval is that the words "U.S. Mail"
must be stamped on the door. Our MaiLocker
can be designated as a UPS/FedEx, paper, or other delivery receptacle, so we
chose not to include the stamping of "U.S. Mail". It is not necessary
to have USPS approval to use The MaiLocker
to receive U.S. mail. In fact, in cities all across the country, mail
carriers have recommended The MaiLocker.
Can we mount The MaiLocker
in the same place our existing box is located?
The MaiLocker mounts as any standard
mailbox. You may also purchase our 60" long, 4x4, steel post. (A 4x4
wood post and our 4x4 steel posts actually measure 3 1/2" square.)
Why get a steel mounting post, too?
The MaiLocker is a fabulous security
system for your mail. It is such a great mailbox that someone may want to
steal it. A wooden post could be cut off and The MaiLocker
stolen, but I'll bet no one would try to cut off your steel post! It just
makes sense to order a steel post to complete your security system.
What is your Return Policy?
In all the years we have been in business, we have had very few returns.
However, if for some reason a MaiLocker
must be returned, please call us first (501-821-1811) for a Return Authorization
Number and the address to which to send it. You will be responsible for shipping
costs and packing The MaiLocker in its
original packing materials, so that it is protected during the return.
All inserts must be included and it must reach us undamaged. After inspection and
The MaiLocker is found to be undamaged, a
refund will be issued for the original purchase price less a 15% restocking fee.
It must be returned within 30 days of the date of the original purchase.
In the unlikely event that a MaiLocker
must be returned because of a defect in material or workmanship,
The MaiLocker will be replaced at no cost to
you.
My MaiLocker
was damaged during shipping. What should I do?
If The MaiLocker is damaged during shipping,
you must immediately contact the carrier for your claim. Be sure to save all
packaging materials, including the box, to show to the carrier's representative.
How can I order?
Complete ordering details are on our order page.
We accept MasterCard and Visa charge cards. If you are an Arkansas resident, sales
tax will be added.
If my mail has already been delivered, how will FedEx put in a package?
According to the United States Postal Service’s DMM (Domestic Mail Manual),
Issue 54, January 10, 1999, Section DO41-1.1..."every letterbox or other
receptacle intended or used for the receipt or delivery of mail"...
(Section DO41-1.3)..."may be used only for matter bearing postage. ...no
part of a mail receptacle may be used to deliver any matter not bearing
postage..."
I need a secure receptacle for my UPS, FedEx and newspaper
deliveries. Can you help me?
Many businesses and individuals purchase two MaiLockers -- one to receive
U.S. mail and one to designate for UPS, FedEx and/or newspaper deliveries.
Affix a sign to the front of The MaiLocker
saying "UPS/FedEx/Newspapers" to designate that box as such.
Let your mail carrier know that the unmarked one is for U.S. mail or put a
"U.S. Mail" sign on it. The one for mail and the one for other
deliveries may stand side-by-side, if the owner desires.
Can I order a different color besides black?
The MaiLocker inventor wanted this
mailbox to be as strong and as secure as possible. After testing and research,
a flat black finish was chosen because flat black is much harder for drive-by
vandals to see in the dark. A mailbox with a light color or a shiny, reflective
surface makes a much better target than our black MaiLocker
.
After many months of happy use, my MaiLocker
finish is appearing grey. What can I do?
The MaiLocker has a protective powder coat
finish which enables road grime to be easily removed. Simply wipe down your
MaiLocker with any oily furniture
polish, like lemon oil, and your MaiLocker
will look new again.
